One year after the official launch of the Odyssey for the Future in Paris, Energy Observer, the first hydrogen vessel around the world, has already travelled 8,000 nautical miles without emitting any greenhouse gasses or fine particles, and seeking out solutions for the planet. During its journey the crew will explore such various themes as the energy transition, solidary economy, fighting poverty, protecting biodiversity, or the struggle towards gender equality, in other words, the 17 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for which Energy Observer serves as the first France’s chief ambassador. "In terms of climate change, we are no longer at the point of assessing, we are at the moment when we must take action, explains Victorien Erussard, captain and founder. Looking for solutions through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals organizes them in a framework and above all, gives a clear objective to citizens, politicians, and companies, because in this challenge that awaits us, everyone has a role to play." "It is now urgent to look to these solutions and the people implementing them, underlines Jérôme Delafosse, expedition leader and video director. More than a marine vessel, Energy Observer hopes to be a media source for the planet. In this web series, we want to explore the globe to discover innovations and the pioneers who created them. The human dimension is essential, man created this unprecedented climatic situation, and today, he alone can find solutions and change the paradigm." Discover the SOLUTIONS web series trailer A general interest web series, available to all Starting next fall, the videos will be available both on social media and on a dedicated platform aimed at showcasing solutions for changing the world, organized around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but also searchable by the countries visited and keywords. The goal is to show the transversality of the SDGs and also to bring together a global community around the 2030 Agenda adopted by the UN in 2015. A preview with the first mock-ups of this platform and the first subjects was presented at the High-Level political forum in New York by Victorien Erussard, where he took part in the French delegation alongside Brune Poirson, Deputy secretary to Nicolas Hulot, French Minister of the Ministry for an Ecological and Inclusive Transition, and Laurence Monnoyer-Smith, commissary general for sustainable development at the Ministry for an Ecological and Inclusive Transition. The SOLUTIONS web series, realized in partnership with SPICEE digital media, will complement the "Odyssey for the Future" series of documentaries to be broadcast on Planète+, in the form of a spin-off. "When your mission, like ours, is to raise awareness and educate, it's essential to broadcast the message on every channel. This is why we wanted to supplement the documentaries broadcast for France by Planète+, with a web series that will be accessible to everyone" explains Jérôme Delafosse. The SOLUTIONS web series is the start of a new phase in Energy Observer's development, which corresponds to the creation of a public-interest media, financed by the patronage of benefactors such as CCR group, the Ministry of ecological and solidary transition, and ADEME. And the team continues to search for partners to enrich and widely broadcast its content, thus enhancing and extending the project's educational mission. "The sponsoring has allowed us to develop the vessel and launch the expedition, the patronage will help us to broadcast our message better and expand our community. This is the real importance of Energy Observer, the ability to link private interests with a real mission, in the general interest, to raise awareness about the urgency of the fight against climate change'' explains Victorien Erussard. About Energy Observer Energy Observer is the first autonomous hydrogen vessel that emits no greenhouse gases or fine particles. This electrically propelled vessel of the future operates through a mix of renewable energies and a system that produces carbon-free hydrogen from seawater. This technological and scientific challenge aims to test cutting-edge technologies in extreme conditions, anticipating the energy networks of the future that could be used on land. Energy Observer is currently conducting an Odyssey for the Future that will last six years (2017-2022). During this time, it will visit 50 countries and call at 101 ports to raise public awareness about key aspects of the environmental transition, in particular: renewable energies, biodiversity, mobility, and the circular economy, through the stopovers made by this traveling village, on social media, and in a series of documentaries. This world tour is led by Victorien Erussard, founder and captain, and France's chief ambassador for the UN's 17 sustainable development goals, and Jérôme Delafosse, head of the expedition and director of the documentary series. Energy Observer received the High Patronage of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, as well as the official support from the European Union, UNESCO and IRENA. About the 2030 Agenda On September 25, 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030) around the theme "Transforming Our World". This text has 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030, which are specified by 169 targets. These SDGs take into account the economic, social and environmental dimensions equitably and integrate poverty eradication and sustainable development for the first time into a common framework. In France, the Interministerial Delegate for Sustainable Development (DIDD) coordinates the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in close consultation with all ministries, and in particular with the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs for the international component. In 2018, France embarked on co-drafting with stakeholders a Roadmap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. |
